SYNTHETIC
RESIN BONDING:
Dental
bonding is a procedure in which a synthetic resin is applied to
the tooth. This procedure can improve the appearance
of teeth in several ways. It can whiten stained teeth, lengthen
short or chipped teeth, and fill in gaps between teeth. This method
works well with brownish or grayish-tinged teeth, which do not
always respond to bleaching.
 
Spaces between teeth can be filled
in and the teeth reshaped. There is no removal of tooth structure
during this process, only addition of material, thereby making it
changeable or totally reversible. This process can be accomplished
in one visit, and without anesthetics (no shots!)
 
PORCELAIN
VENEERS:
Another semi-conservative
cosmetic dental approach to smile renovation is through the placement
of porcelain veneers. A veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain
that is fabricated in the laboratory and is bonded to the front
of a tooth. Visually it can accomplish the same result as a full
porcelain crown, however there is only minimal or no tooth reduction.
A slight amount of enamel may be removed to make room for the veneer
allowing not only changes to the shape and size of a tooth, but
also the color.
